There’s something wonderfully relaxed about a jug of sangria on a warm afternoon. It’s colourful, refreshing, and endlessly customisable — and the best part? You can make it with either alcoholic or non-alcoholic wine and the recipe works exactly the same.
Whether you're hosting friends, prepping for a family BBQ, or simply want something delicious for a slow Sunday at home, sangria is a crowd-pleaser that looks impressive with very little effort.
Here’s how to make it.
🍊Ingredients - makes 1.1 litres
- 250ml red wine, alcoholic or non-alcoholic
- 250ml orange juice
- 250ml Red Elk Gluhwein Mulled Wine syrup
- 250ml soda water
- fresh fruit, sliced, to garnish (orange or strawberries are classics)
🥄Method
- Add your fruit and a handful of ice to a large jug.
- Pour in red wine, orange juice, Red Elk Gluhwein Mulled wine syrup, and soda water.
- Stir gently and let it sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
Tips: Traditionally, you would let the ice melt into the mix, diluting it over time as you keep drinking. However, if this is not your vibe, add ice into the glass and top up with extra soda water when serving.
When picking a non-alcoholic wine, check the label for 'de-alcoholised wine'. This ensures that the wine has gone through the process of de-alcoholisation and will not affect the taste. 'Non-alcoholic wine' will likely be juice based, making the taste sweeter than normal.
Sangria is endlessly flexible. You can:
-
Use white or rosé wine for a brighter, citrus-forward twist
-
Switch OJ for pineapple juice
-
Add a handful of frozen berries to keep it cold
